DUSHANBE, December 17, 2015, Asia-Plus — On Wednesday December 16, Mr. Takashi Kamada, Ambassador of Japan to Tajikistan, together with Mr. Abduqodir Valizoda, the Chairperson of Hamadoni District, conducted a handover ceremony for “The Project for Construction of Medical Point in Yangiyul Village, Chubek Jamoat, Hamadoni District.

According to Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe, the Government of Japan provided 88,120 U.S. dollars to the local government of Hamadoni District through the scheme of “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP)” for the implementation of the project.

On March 28 and 29, 2013 the only medical point in Yangiyul village was considerably damaged as a result of the mudflow caused by flooding.  Having no access to any medical facilities close to the village, dwellers of Yangiyul village had to go to the central district hospital situated far from the village while doctors and nurses had to make home visits to treat the patients.  With the successful completion of the project, a new building of the medical point in Yangiyul village is now available for the village residents providing easier and quicker access to the medical services.

The Government of Japan is dedicated to continuing its support for creating a better society for all people and committed to working together with the people of Tajikistan.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/ medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries.  GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level that aim to improve livelihood of the local population.  As of today, GGP has supported 346 projects in Tajikistan, for which more than US$ 28 million has been provided since 1996.
