DUSHANBE, December 18, 2015, Asia-Plus — The workshop titled “Risk Analysis and Food Inspection” took place in Dushanbe on December 17-18.

According to the FAO Country Office in Tajikistan, the workshop was aimed to address the issue of food safety and consumer protection.

The main objective of the workshop was reportedly in emphasizing the strategic importance of the policy of risk analysis and stressing the effective food safety management practices for agriculture products throughout agro-food value chain.

The workshop was focused on strengthening national control system for food safety, also traceability and product recall system.

”It is to note that in recent years thanks to development of international trade in food and feed commodities, the potential for food safety hazards is increasing,” said Mr. Viorel Gutu, FAO Representative in Tajikistan.

According to him, the workshop aimed to raise awareness of the approaches currently available for preventing food safety incidents on food safety, prepare the region to respond effectively to food safety emergencies and support risk management decision making.

Food safety professionals from various structure of the country were in attendance of the workshop.  As part of the training, participants were introduced with FAO/WHO practical frameworks to apply the principles and procedures of risk analysis in food safety emergency situations.

The workshop is a part of a larger effort by FAO to improve capacity building of national systems for food safety to protect the health of population, improve the nutrition, to promote agro-food trade and economic development.
