DUSHANBE, December 23, 2015, Asia-Plus – German non-government organizations Tajik Aid and Pamir-Hilfever have provided humanitarian aid to residents of the Bartang Valley in Rushan district of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) who have suffered from the 7.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred in the region on December 7.

According to the German Embassy in Dushanbe, the assistance included winter clothes, baby foods and detergents.

The humanitarian aid was reportedly delivered to Tajikistan on December 11.  The aid was sent to Bartang, where it was distributed among the victims affected by the earthquake.

By providing the humanitarian aid Germany responded to a request for assistance from the Interior Ministry of Tajikistan.

According to figures from the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense under the Government of Tajikistan, 1,327 houses were damaged or destroyed and 7,962 people were displaced as of December 11.  Critical infrastructure, including roads, medical facilities, hydro-power stations, and schools also incurred damage.
