DUSHANBE, February 4, 2016, Asia-Plus — Twenty-six NGO activists of the NGO Coalitions against Torture in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan and experienced anti-torture journalists participated in the training “Strategic Approaches to Public, Media and Government Relations for NGOs”, which was held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on February 1-2.

According to the Delegation of the European Union to Tajikistan, the training — organized by the NGO Coalitions against Torture in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan – was led by Vyacheslav Abramov, editor-in-chief of the publishing house

in Kazakhstan.

The training reportedly strengthened the participants’ knowledge about tools and strategies to effectively communicate concerns and recommendations about torture to the government and the public.

The training provided an opportunity for NGO activists and journalists to share their experience and elaborate new approaches and effective strategies to be applied in their work against torture in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.

The training is conducted in the framework of the EU-funded project, Action for Freedom from Torture in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.  Open Society Foundations is the co-sponsor of the project.
