DUSHANBE, March 17, 2016, Asia-Plus – As part of his official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Tajik President Emomali Rahmon today met in Abu Dhabi with Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD).

According to the Tajik president’s official website, Emomali Rahmon noted that Tajikistan attaches significance to cooperation with the Arab world and the United Arab Emirates occupies one of the leading positions in that world.

The two sides reportedly exchanged views on cooperation between the two countries in extracting minerals in Tajikistan and participation of ADFD in implementation of projects in Tajikistan.

Rahmon noted that the Tajik Government had created all necessary conditions for attraction and protection of foreign investments in the country.

The sides reached an agreement on expansion of cooperation in the fields of mining, light and food industries, energy, and transportation, the president’s website said.

Fourteen Tajikistan-UAE joint venture now operate in Tajikistan, however, there is considerable room for expansion of economic ties.

The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) is an autonomous foreign aid agency established by the government of Abu Dhabi in 1971.  The fund provides concessionary loans to fund economic and social development projects. The fund also invests in order to expand and strengthen the private sector economies of its clients.  ADFD reportedly aims to support developing countries in achieving sustainable socioeconomic development.  In Asia, the ADFD has financed projects in Indonesia, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Mongolia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, and the Maldives.
