DUSHANBE, March 18, 2016, Asia-Plus — On Thursday March 17, the Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe held an information seminar on “Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP)” at the Ismaili Center Dushanbe, comprising of presentations regarding GGP requirements and procedures, Q&A session, and case studies on successful project implementation.

More than 70 representatives from the local and international NGOs, local executive bodies from various districts as well as representatives from the international organizations joined the seminar.

The GGP Seminar, which was held for the first time in Tajikistan, was a technical training program coordinated with the Public Organization of Friendship of Tajikistan and Japan “Nihon-Toj.”  The event aimed at providing information on each step of the GGP procedure and necessary documents that enable improving the quality and efficacy of the projects.

In the seminar the Embassy staff with considerable field experience lectured on various stages of the project implementation, including: “Application Submission,” “Pre-Survey Monitoring,” “Project Formation,” “Signing of Grant Contract,” “Project Implementation,” “Project Completion,” and “Follow-up Monitoring.” The presentations included case studies on the two successful past project implementations that took place in Vahdat Township and Hamadoni District.  Following the presentation part was a discussion session, in which participants actively asked questions regarding the rules and requirements of the GGP projects and exchanged ideas.

This successfully held seminar effectively provided an opportunity for all the participants to acquire comprehensive information on the “Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP)” within Japan’s Official Development Assistance schemes.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/medical institutions and international NGOs, responding to various development needs in the human security sector at the grassroots level.  As of today, GGP has supported 352 projects in Tajikistan, for which more than US$ 28.5 million has been provided since 1996.  The target sectors are diverse, ranging from basic economic infrastructure projects to social development projects, in the fields of: education, health, agriculture, water supply, vocational training, and disaster risk reduction.
