DUSHANBE, March 18, 2016, Asia-Plus – On Thursday March 17, Shukurjon Zuhurov, the head of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament, met in Islamabad with Mr. Syed Tariq Fatemi, Special Assistant to the Pakistan Prime Minister for Foreign Affairs.

 Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon, says the two sides discussed state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan.

Tajik parliament speaker reportedly appreciated Pakistan’s support for accession of Tajikistan to the agreement between Islamabad, Beijing, Astana and Bishkek on the transit of goods and services.

The two pointed to the necessity of speedy signing of Pakistan-Afghanistan Tajikistan Trilateral Transit Trade Agreement (PATTTTA), Sultonov said.

According to him, Pakistani official stated that his country always supported Tajikistan’s initiatives on security, energy and water resources at the international level.

They also discussed issues related to providing regional security and achieving peace and accord in Afghanistan, the spokesman added.

Syed Tariq Fatemi is a Pakistani diplomat, geostrategist, Professor, and the current Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs since June 8, 2013.

He is a career foreign service officer and has held important diplomatic missions throughout his career.  In addition, he also provided his foreign policy expertise to represent Pakistan”s case at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).  Aside from foreign service, he has briefly taught courses on International relations at the Foreign Service Academy and as well courses on Security studies at the National Defense University and the Quaid-i-Azam University. , and has repeatedly appeared in news media to comment on foreign affairs of the country.  He is an expert on Russian studies and is fluent in Russian language.
