DUSHANBE, March 30, 2016, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament has approved the extradition treaty signed between Tajikistan and Pakistan in November last year.

A regular sitting of the second session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fifth convocation, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, took place on March 30.

Speaking at the session, First Deputy Interior Minister, Abdurahmon Alamsho, noted that after ratification of the treaty Dushanbe and Islamabad could extradite to each other persons suspected of involvement in terrorism, murder, kidnapping, and hostage taking.

“Persons persecuted for political reasons are not liable to extradition,” the deputy interior minister note.

We will recall that Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif witnessed the signing of the treaty at a ceremony held at the PM House in Islamabad on November 12, 2015.  The extradition treaty was signed by Tajik Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzoda and Pakistani Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz.
