DUSHANBE, April 22, 2016, Asia-Plus – On Thursday April 21, Tajik First Deputy Foreign Minister, Nizomiddin Zohidi, received a delegation of the European Union, led by Ambassador Peter Burian, the European Union Special Representative for Central Asia (EUSR).

According to the Tajik MFA information department the two sides discussed state and prospects of further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union.

They, in particular, discussed issues related to cooperation on implementation of Tajikistan’s national sustainable development strategy for period until 2030 and the upcoming EU-Central Asia High-Level Security Dialogue to discuss ways to address political and security issues of shared concern.

The meeting was also attended by Jobst von Kirchmann, Head of the Development Coordination Unit (DG DEVCO) of European Commission, Filiberto C. Sebregondi, Head of Development Cooperation Coordination Division of UEAS, Malgorzata Wasilewska, Head of Conflict Prevention, Peace Building and Mediation Division of UEAS, Berenice Muraille, Head of Sector for Central Asia (DG DEVCO), Ambassador Hidajet Biscevic, Head of EU Delegation to Tajikistan and other members of the delegation.

The Special Representative is tasked with promoting EU political coordination in Central Asia, monitoring the implementation of the EU Central Asia Strategy and supporting regional security in the region.
