DUSHANBE, May 12, 2016, Asia-Plus – Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in Tajikistan on May 11 for a two-day working visit, with the CASA-1000 power project to be officially launched during his trip.

On the same day, Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met here with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon to discuss cooperation.

The two sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of bilateral cooperation between their countries in the fields of politics, economics, security, culture, science and education, according to the Tajik president’s official website.

They also underlined the importance and timeliness of the establishment of direct air communication between Dushanbe and Pakistani city of Lahore.

The Tajik side reportedly confirmed its readiness to provide Pakistan’s market with fresh fruits and vegetables and dried fruits.

The two sides also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest.   

The legal foundation of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Pakistan consists of 50 government-to-government and intersectoral agreements providing development of interstate relations in all spheres of cooperation.      

The groundbreaking ceremony of CASA-1000 power project is being held in Tursunzoda today.  

The $1.17 billion CASA-1000 power project aims to export electricity from hydropower plants in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
