DUSHANBE, May 16, 2016, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan”s foreign debt has risen 5 million U.S. dollars (USD) over the first three months of this year, according to the Finance Ministry Secretariat.  

The debt reportedly increased from 2.182 billion USD on January 1 to little more than 2.187 billion USD on April 1.

Government debt has accounted for 1.984 billion USD, the Secretariat said, noting that the debts guaranteed by the state have amounted to more than 22.4 million USD.

Meanwhile, debts of state-run enterprises that are not guaranteed by the government have amounted to 31.5 million USD.

Over the report period, long-term preferential loans from international financial institutions have formed the bulk of Tajikistan”s foreign debt.

Thus, the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) has reportedly borrowed 132.4 million USD from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in order to keep the balance of payments.

Besides, Tajik central bank has reportedly borrowed 11 million USD from China and 5.6 million USD from the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the Secretariat said.
