DUSHANBE, July 29, 2016, Asia-Plus – Tajik government has reportedly pruned the national budget for 2016 by 450 million somoni.

“Taking into consideration the increasing economic crisis, the government has decided to revise the national budget for this year downward,” Tajik Finance Minister Abdusalom Qurboniyon announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on July 29.

The national budget for 2016 that was adopted late last year amounted to 18.3 billion somoni, which was 3 billion somoni more than the national budget for 2015.

“After long discussions, the government has decided to prune the budget for 2016 by 450 million somoni,” said the minister.  “It was decided to resign non-essential expenditures such as expenditures earmarked for purchasing official cars, repairing buildings, purchasing furniture for ministries and agencies.  The national budget for 2016  projected 200 million somoni for these purposes.  The remaining amount also includes 150 million somoni of the reserve fund of the Agency for Social Insurance and Pensions.”

Over the first six months of this year, the fulfillment rate of the budget was reportedly 95.9 percent and the public purse has received c3.3 billion somoni over the report period, which was 144.7 million somoni less than it was originally planned and 164.5 million somoni more than in the same period last year.

The fulfillment rate of the budget’s expenditure part was reportedly 90.9 percent and 8.4 billion somoni (equivalent to 38.4 percent of GDP) have gone to the country’s economy over the same six-month period.
