A mass campaign for the collection of raw cotton started their works on the sidelines of Tajikistan these days. Farmers of the country have sent all existing opportunities for a timely harvest, reports the Ministry of agriculture of the Republic.

It is noted that the harvest began cotton-growing farms in Khatlon and Sughd regions.

According to the forecasts, the report says, it is planned to collect 368 thousand tons of raw cotton till the end of the year.

At the end of last week in Republic was collected 28.5 thousand tons of cotton, accounting for 7.7% of the target. The volume of harvested is 16.5 thousand tons more compared to the same period last year.

The Ministry of agriculture stressed that this year over 162.5 thousand hectares of land were sown with cotton. In particular, under this culture were given more than 155.5 thousand hectares of land in Khatlon oblast, about 44.2 hectares in Sughd and more than 2.8 thousand hectares in the districts of Republican subordination.

Recall that last year in Tajikistan about 160 thousand hectares of an area were sown by cotton. At year-end in this area was collected about 390 thousand tons. However, Tajik cotton growers have managed to collect just over 270 thousand tons of harvest, which is 99 thousand tones less than in 2014.

Note that cotton is the second export commodity of Tajikistan after aluminum.
