In the Sughd region, a resident of Bobojongafurov District was sentenced to five years in prison. 32-year-old man found guilty of involvement in the banned in Tajikistan movement "Salafia".

The trial of  32 year-old Ubaidullo Sharipov was held in Bobojon Gafurov. Sharipov was found guilty under article 307 of note 3 part 2 (Participation in the activities of political parties, public or religious associations or other organizations in respect of which the court adopted a legally effective decision to liquidate or ban their activities in connection with the implementation of extremist activities) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan. The man was sentenced to five years' imprisonment, told AP the presiding judge of the trial, Judge Boirjon Zoirzoda

According to the judge, Sharipov was detained by officers of the State Committee for National Security of the Sughd region in May 2017.

During the trial it was established that the convict in 2014 voluntarily joined the ranks of the religious movement "Salafia" banned in Tajikistan, and until the time of detention continued to conduct religious propaganda.

"The verdict has not yet entered into legal force. The term of punishment of the convict will serve in the colony of the general regime, "said Boirjon Zoirzoda.

The religious movement of "Salafia" was banned by the Supreme Court in early 2009. In 2014, the movement is recognized as extremist.

The first verdict against adherents of "Salafia" was made in 2010 by the court of the capital district of Sino. Then seven people were convicted – Sirojiddin Aburahmonov, a famous Salafi, and his son – Kiromiddin Abdurahmonov, as well as Abdurahmon Abdurahimov, Muhammadradjab Navruzov, Shakhobiddin Saidov, Muzaffar Fayzulloev and Ikromiddin Yusupov.
