President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon on Saturday, with a working trip, visited the Kanask village of the rural jamoat Romit of the Vakhdat city.

On the spot Emomali Rahmon gave start of harvesting potatoes and got acquainted with the achievements of workers at the exhibition of a number of agricultural holdings.

The Kanask locality is located in the north-east of the  Vahdatcity  at an altitude of 2300-2500 meters above sea level, at a distance of 100 km from the city center. The total area of Kanask is 40 thousand hectares.

According to the press service of the head of state, the goal of the President's visit was to promote the development of the potato industry, the process of implementing the “State Program for the Development of the Seed Sector for 2016-2020”, beekeeping, the introduction of new lands into agricultural production and its effective use in this region.

Recall that on August 13, 2016 Emomali Rahmon visited this area, got acquainted with agroclimatic conditions, after which the government decree created the State Unitary Enterprise “Kanask subsidiary farm”.

During the sowing season, more than 13 units of equipment and other agricultural equipment were mobilized at the expense of SUE "Tojikagroleasing" in the Kanask area, work was completed on leveling, plowing and sowing.

In 2017, in Kanask on an area of 200 hectares sowing of agricultural crops is carried out, of which 176 hectares are sown potatoes of basic sowing, for about 4 hectares – vegetables and 20 hectares – early potatoes. Out of this amount of land, the Ministry of Agriculture offered tenants and a number of state and local bodies, ministries of defense and internal affairs 35 hectares for sowing potatoes using their own seeds.

According to the instruction of the President, the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic in 2018 will expand the area of sowing seed potatoes to 400 hectares, and harvest it to 16 thousand tons. The seeds of early potatoes produced in Kanask are mainly used for the early sowing of potatoes in the regions of Khatlon and Gissar Valley.
