A delegation of Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region, led by the deputy Surkhandarya governor Ruzimurod Choriyev, attended celebrations dedicated to Tajikistan’s Independence Day that took place in the Tajik city of Tursunzoda.
Uzbek guests reportedly got acquainted with economic and cultural achievements of the city and highly appraised facilities that had been built in Tursunzoda in recent years.
Arrival of an Uzbek delegation was a return visit. Eleven days ago, senior representatives of Tursunzoda mayor’s office visited the Uzbek city of Termez to attend celebrations dedicated to Uzbekistan’s Independence Day. Uzbekistan celebrates Independence Day on September 1.
Meanwhile, this year, the main event to commemorate the 26th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence took place in Dushanbe.
The theatrical show dedicated to the national holiday was held at Dushanbe’s Central Stadium in the evening of September 9.
Cultural activities to celebrate the country’s independence will be held in all districts of Dushanbe.
Dozens of social, cultural and educational facilities were commissioned in the Tajik capital on the occasion of Independence Day.
Cultural activities, including concerts and outdoor fetes, took place in all regions of the country.

In 1924, Tajikistan was incorporated into Uzbekistan as the Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. It became a separate constituent Soviet republic (the Tajik SSR) five years later. When the imminent collapse of the Soviet Union became evident, Tajikistan proclaimed its independence. The official proclamation was made on September 9, 1991.
