Since early September, payment terminals have not identified new somoni banknotes of 10, 20, 50 and 100 denominations.

According to the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), the payment terminal cannot identify the new banknotes because additional security features were included in them.

“The problem will be solved within the next two or three weeks.  For this it is necessary to reprogram the payment terminals’ card readers,” a source at Tajik central bank told Asia-Plus in an interview.

Recall, the new somoni banknotes of 10, 20, 50 and 100 denominations with additional security features were put into circulation on August 31, 217.

Additional security features were included in the new somoni banknotes of 10, 20, 50 and 100 denomination for the purpose of improving the quality of money turnover and reducing the somoni counterfeiting risks, the source added.
