Tajik President Emomali Rahmon held a traditional meeting with local entrepreneurs and investors in Dushanbe on October 14, which is marked in Tajikistan as the Entrepreneurs Day. The meeting focused on issues related to investment, development of industry and infrastructure as well as financial and banking sectors.
Speaking at the meeting, the head of state pointed to the necessity of supporting reforms aiming at production of import-substituting and export products, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
President Rahmon also urged to improve advertisement of domestic products. “The practice shows that advertisement of domestic products at international exhibitions promotes increasing exports and finding new investors and buyers,” the president said.
“Over the past 15 years, 350 exhibitions of domestic and foreign products have been organized in Tajikistan. Meanwhile, domestic products have participated only in 32 exhibitions abroad over the report period,” Rahmon stressed.
The head of state, in particular, noted that analysis of import goods showed that 8.4 billion U.S. dollars’ worth of goods had been imported into the country over the past four years, including US$2.6 billion worth of wheat and wheat flour, US$1.6 billion worth of meat and meat products, about US$2.7 billion worth of vegetable oil and cattle, US#2 billion worth of farinaceous foods, nearly US$2 billion worth of pharmaceutical products, etc.
The president called on the ministries of economic development and trade, finance, industry and new technologies, migration and employment as well the state committee on investment and state-owned property management to take adequate measures to ensure the implementation of the national program for export promotion and import substitution designed for 2016-2020.
