Tajik cotton growers have fulfilled this year’s cotton target having yielded more than 356,000 tons of raw cotton by October 23, which is 100.07 percent of the 2017 target, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).

“Favorable weather conditions and observance of agro-technical rules have allowed cotton-growing districts to yield a good harvest this year,” a source at a MoA told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, the Sughd province and the districts subordinate to the center have overfulfilled their cotton targets by 2.4 percent each and the Khatlon province has overfulfilled this year’s cotton target by 01 percent. 

The cotton-harvesting campaign is still going on in the country.    

In 2016, more than 162,500 hectares of farmlands in Tajikistan were allocated to cotton cultivation and cotton growers yielded about 315,000 tons raw cotton last year.
