736 crimes were committed by women in the Sughd province last year, which was 54 cases more than in 2016, Ms. Nigora Ghafforzoda, the chairperson of the Sughd department for family and women’s department, told reporters in Khujand, the capital of the Sughd province, on February 5.  

Ms. Ghafforzoda also noted that 81 female suicides and suicide attempts were reported in the province last year, which was 29 cases less than in 2016.  

Expressing concern over female suicides in the country, Tajik lawmakers in 2016 set up a special commission to investigate this problem.
