Tajik and Uzbek leaders have vowed to boost bilateral cooperation between their countries.

Before the beginning of tete-a-tete talks, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev made brief statements for the press.

Tajik leader, in particular, noted that Tajikistan attached significance to its cooperation with Uzbekistan and would support Uzbekistan’s initiatives to expand regional cooperation.

Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that Uzbekistan would expand bilateral cooperation with Tajikistan in all spheres.

“In the near future, bilateral cooperation between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan will be brought to the level of strategic partnership,” Mirziyoyev said.

After the meeting of the leaders of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan in a one-on-one format, the talks will continue in an expanded format, with the participation of the members of the official delegations of the two countries.

The negotiations are expected to result in signing of twenty-five new cooperation documents.
