Uzbekistan is interested in development of Tajikistan’s energy sector, including the construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power plant (HPP), Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said in Dushanbe on March 9 following the talks in an expanded format with the participation of the members of the official delegations of the two countries.

No unsolved issues have remained in relationship between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan, Uzbek leader noted.

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, for his part, noted that they had reached an agreement to increase the bilateral trade between the two countries up to 1 billion U.S. dollars in the near future.

On the water-and-energy issues, the sides noted that Tajikistan’s hydropower facilities, both operational and those under construction, served the whole Central Asian region.

Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are expected to set up a joint commission to study the possibility of use of water of Lake Sarez.
