Deputy of Tajikistan’s lower house (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament, Saidjaffar Ismonov, who is also the leader of the Democratic Party of Tajikistan (DPT), draws president’s attention to rude attitude by some law enforcement officers to employees of the troubled banks.

Speaking at a regular sitting of the Majlisi Namoyandagon, Ismonov noted on June 13 that some law enforcement officers working with commissions that have been set up to solve problems of the country’s troubled banks have been treating employees of the troubled banks (Tojiksodirotbonk and Agroinvestbonk) and the liquidated banks (Tajprombank and Fononbank) as criminals.

“The law enforcement officers forget that employees of the banking sphere have made a significant contribution to development of Tajikistan,” MP Ismonov noted.

According to him, “they do not want to know that one must not treat persons such as Murodali Alimardon, who stood at the beginning of the banking sphere of  independent Tajikistan, as criminals,” said Ismonov.  “…Today they are rude to him.  I want the president to know about this.”

He further noted that the government last year provided some 4 billion somoni to recapitalize the troubled banks.

“But the then Minister of Finance Abdusalom Qurboniyon has resolved, first of all, problems of the Ministry of Finance at the expense of the provided funds,” MP stressed.

Recall, four local commercial banks have been experiencing liquidity issues since 2015.  Parliament in December 2016 approved a government decree to issue bonds to recapitalize the mentioned banks.  TSB and Agroinvestbonk were topped up by 2.25 billion somoni (US$284 million) and 1.7 billion somoni (US$215 million), respectively.
