250 of 1,050 students at the Islamic University named after Imam Abu Hanifa al-Nu’man bin Thabit in Dushanbe are girls, according to the Committee on Religious Affairs (CRA) under the Government of Tajikistan.

“Besides, of 162 teachers at two faculties (Oriental Philology and Theology) 36 are women,” a source at CRA told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, there is dress code for female students at the Islamic University, which meets norms of Islamic law and Tajik national dress.

Established in 1991, the Tajik Islamic University now offers programs in the following disciplines: 1) Quranic Sciences; 2) Arabic Philology; 3) History of Islam and Other Religions; Theology and Philosophy of Islam; and 5) Islamic Sciences.

The Islamic University collaborates with all Tajik higher educational institutions but does not have contacts with foreign religious schools.

Recall, President Emomali Rahmon on May 30 laid the cornerstone for a new building of the Islamic University.

The main building of the Islamic University will consist of five seven-story blocks, including educational buildings, administrative buildings, library, gym hall, dormitory, conference hall and cafeteria.

The new educational buildings will be able to accommodate 1,500 students.

136 million somoni will be allocated for construction of new building of the Islamic University, which will be built on Nizami Ganjavi Street, not far from Central Cathedral Mosque, construction of which is nearing completion.
