A Tajik private company will start construction of cement in southern Uzbekistan in the near future, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Nematulo Hikmatullozoda, told reporters in Dushanbe on August 3.

According to him, the cement plant will be built in the Surkhandarya region.  “We welcome and support the intention of Tajik private business to invest in the economy of the neighboring country,” the minister said.

He further noted that a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Uzbekistan has valued at 128.3 million U.S. dollars over the first six months of this year, which was 69 million U.S. dollars more than in the same period last year.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Uzbekistan estimated at 75 million U.S. dollars and Tajikistan’s imports from Uzbekistan worth 53.3 million U.S dollars.

Tajikistan and Uzbekistan intend to increase the bilateral trade up to 1 billion U.S. dollars in the near future, Hikmatullozoda added.
