President Emomali Rahmon has offered criminalization of infection of patients or hairdresser/salon clients.  His offer has come during an address to a meeting dedicated to an opening ceremony of the Abu Ali Sino (Avicenna) Monument that has been installed in new place.

The meeting took place on September 1 and its members included students and teachers of Tajik Medical University as well as representatives of other Dushanbe-based universities.

“There are 254 dentist facilities functioning in the country and some of them evoke serious concern because they do not meet even elementary hygienic requirements for processing of medical devices that causes infectious deceases,” said the president.

Rahmon ordered the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and the Agency for State Sanitary and Epidemiological Supervision to take adequate measures to remove the mentioned shortcomings.

The president also suggested that the country’s penal code should criminalize infection of patients or hairdresser/salon clients.

Rahmon also noted that many clinics use low-quality or expired medicines being smuggled into Tajikistan from other countries.

He ordered the Ministry of Health and Social Protection to work out amendments to the country’s relevant laws.

According to the statistical data from the Tajik president’s official website, there are 681 private medical facilities are now operating in the country.  382 of them have the status of legal entity, 55 others have the status of a branch, and 301 medical facilities belong to physical entities.  1600 physicians and 1,500 nurse practitioners reportedly work with these facilities.  Besides, there are 58 private hospitals, 22 diagnostic centers, 69 labs, 4 pharmaceutical centers and more than 2,300 drugstores are operating in the country.

Recall, the Avicenna Monument has been relocated to the new Medical University Campus in connection with construction of a new flyover in the Tajik capital.

Construction of the new three-route flyover in the Qariyai Bolo roundabout is part of the project aiming at rehabilitating and upgrading a 62-kilometer road linking Dushanbe to the Uzbek border.

The Avicenna Monument that was installed in Dushanbe in 1984 has been relocated from its original installation in the Qariyai Bolo area and installed at the new campus the Tajik Medical University.
