Tajikistan wins seven medals at 2918 Asian Games in Indonesia

Tajikistan has won seven medals including four silver and three bronze at the Asian Games in Indonesia.

Judoka Komronsho Ustopiriyon has grabbed the bronze medal for Tajikistan, finishing third in the men's U90 kg and sambo wrester Umed Hasanbekov has won the silver medal for Tajikistan, finishing second in men’s 90 kg.

Besides, Komronsho Ustopiriyon finished third in sambo men’s U 90 kg, and judoka Shakarmamad Mirmamadov grabbed the bronze medal for Tajikistan, finishing third in the men's 100 kg

These were four other medals for Tajikistan including three silver medals in men’s hammer throw, kurash (folk wrestling style practiced in Central Asia) and canoe.  

In the overalls standings, Tajikistan took the 30th place, according to the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan (NOC).

This year, Tajik athletes reportedly participated in the Asian Summer Games for the seventh time.  In the previous six Asiads, Tajik athletes won totaling 21 meads, including 4 gold, 3 silver and 14 bronze medals.  

The Asian Games, also known as Asiad, is a continental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia.  The Games were regulated by the Asian Games Federation (AGF) from the first Games in New Delhi, India, until the 1978 Games.  Since the 1982 Games, they have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), after the breakup of the Asian Games Federation.  The Games are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and are described as the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games.
