The People’s Friendship Park in Dushanbe will be renamed Firdavsi Park, according to the Dushanbe mayor’s office.

Dushanbe Mayor Rustam Emomali reportedly signed a decree on renaming Peoples’ Friendship Park on September 4,    

Recall, the renovated People’s’ Friendship Park, which is located in Dushanbe’s Firdavsi district, is expected to reopen on the eve of Tajikistan Independence Day, which is celebrated on September 9.

The work on renovation of this park has been financed by the Dushanbe Mayor’s Office, the Tax Committee under the Government of Tajikistan, the Khatlon Regional Administration and local entrepreneurs.  

Established in 1972, the Peoples’ Friendship Park is an urban park in Dushanbe.  It covers an area of 30 hectares, according to the Dushanbe mayor’s office. 

The Khatlon authorities have reportedly financed improvement of 41,000 square meters of the park’s alleys and planting of trees in an area of 4.2 hectares.

In all, 6,468 different tress and 35,000 decorative and seasonal flowers have been planted in the park.

The Tax Committee has financed construction of four mini football fields, tennis court, and children’s playground as well the administrative building of the park.

Local entrepreneurs have reportedly financed construction of a rollerdrome, computer game hall and sportswear shop. 

Besides, a 1,500-seat amphitheater has been built in the park, the Dushanbe mayor’s office said.
