Deficit of Tajikistan's trade balance is approaching $ 1.4 billion: for eight months of this year, the republic imported goods worth more than $ 2.1 billion, and the export amounted to only about $ 713 million.

The foreign trade turnover of the country in January-August 2018 amounted to about $ 2 billion 820 million, which is 19.4% ($ 458 million) more than the same period last year, told "AP" in the Agency for Statistics under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Exports of goods for eight months of this year amounted to about $ 713 million, which is almost 17% ($ 103 million) more compared to the same period last year.

More than half of the total exports were mineral products, 22.1% – non-precious metals and articles thereof, 21% – textile materials.

Import of goods was made for more than $ 2 billion 107 million. This is 20% or $ 355 million more than the volume of imports in January-August 2017.

A relatively large share in imports is occupied by vehicles, machinery and equipment (23.2%), mineral products (18.5%).

Thus, the trade balance was negative, amounting to about $ 1 billion 395 million. For the same period last year, the trade balance deficit was about $ 1.1 billion.

The ratio of imports to exports in January-June of this year was 34%. In the same period last year, this indicator was 36%. That is the ratio of exports to imports has deteriorated by 2%.

The main trading partner of Tajikistan remains Russia: the total volume of the Tajik-Russian trade turnover in January-August this year was $ 651 million, which is almost 10% more than the same period last year.

Next are Kazakhstan (more than $ 553 million), China ($ 433 million), Turkey ($ 268 million), Uzbekistan ($ 192 million).

The bilateral trade with Iran continues to decline: for eight months of this year, the Tajik-Iranian trade turnover was just over $ 70 million, which is 34% less than in January-August 2017.
