Parents of two underage children from Vahdat Township have been fined for their children’s truancy, according to the press center of the Prosecutor-General’s Office of Tajikistan.

Parents of the 12-year-old Muhammadjon Nouriddinov, who is the 6th grade student from Vahdat’s School # 2, were fined 150 somoni because their son was working as bus conductor instead of attending school.

Parents of the 5th grade student from Vahdat’s School # 26 were also fined 150 somoni because their son was working at local bazaar instead of attending school.

They were reportedly found guilty of violating norms of the country’s law on parental responsibilities, which was adopted in June 2011.

Tajikistan’s constitution obliges parents to enable their children to attend school and that all children between the ages of seven and 16 must do so.
