The National Forum dedicated to International Women’s Entrepreneurship Day took place at Hilton Dushanbe Hotel on November 19.

The event participants included members of the Tajik government, representatives of international organizations active in the country and local female.

Inaugurating the event, Chairperson of the Committee on Family and Women’s Affairs under the Government of Tajikistan, Ms. Idiqul Qosimzoda, noted that presidential grants have been provided annually since 2006 for the purpose of supporting development of women’s entrepreneurship in the country.

“Every year, 80 female entrepreneurs receive grants for implementation of their projects,” Ms. Qosimzoda noted.

2,577 new jobs have been created in the country due to presidential grants, she added.

Speaking at the forum, Dr. Pratibha Mehta, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Tajikistan, noted that International Women’s Entrepreneurship Day is an important event giving women new opportunities not only for their own development but also for development of the country as a whole.

She noted that women constitute over 50 percent of those engaged in certain activities worldwide and in Tajikistan.  This allows them not only actively participating in development of society but also getting new opportunities for their financial stability and improvement of living conditions, Dr. Pratibha Mehta said.
