Two officials have been detained in Tajikistan on suspicion of illegal land transactions, according to the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption. 

Head of the Mujun jamoat in the Devashtich (formerly Ghonchi) district of the northern Sughd province, Komil Otaboyzoda, has reportedly been detained for bribe taking. 

He demanded 10,000 somoni from local resident for allocating parcel of land for housing.  He was caught red-handed by anticorruption officers while taking money from local resident. 

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against him under the provisions of Article 319 – acceptance of bribe; an investigation is under way.

Umarali Nematov, a specialist at the State Unitary Enterprise (SUE) Real Estate Registration of Vahdat Township, some 17 kilometers to the east of Dushanbe, has been detained on suspicion of fraud.  

He reportedly demanded 20,000 somoni from local resident for assistance with allocating a parcel of land for construction of vacation house.  Nematov promised that Vahdat mayor will sign the resolution. 

He has been caught red-handed while taking 20,000 somoni from local resident. 

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Nematov under the provisions of Article 257 (4) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – large-scale fraud; an investigation is under way, the anticorruption agency said.
