Over the first eleven months of this year, inflation rate in Tajikistan has stood at 5.1 percent, which was 0.4 percent more than in the same period last year, according to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan.

Last month, inflation rate in Tajikistan reportedly stood at 1.4 percent.

Meanwhile, the inflation rate for the first six months of this year has been estimated at only 0.8 percent.  This is due to the two-month deflation process that was interrupted in April.

Rising prices and rates for some food products, non-foodstuffs and services rendered to the population have reportedly had a ripple effect on the inflation rates in September, October and November.

Over the first eleven months of this year, the cost of products of the food industry has reportedly increased by 4.8 percent

Non-foodstuffs have risen in cost 5.5 percent over the same eleven-month period and prices and rates for services rendered to the population in January-November this year have reportedly increased by 5.8 percent.

The increase in cost of products of the food industry has reportedly been caused by two-fold rise in prices for cabbages – twice, carrots – 1.9 times, butter – by 31.5 percent, rice – by 19.3 percent, cooking oil (cotton oil) – 11.1 percent, and first grade wheat flour – by 10.3 percent.

Non-foodstuffs have risen in cost by 8.3 percent in January-November this with the prices increasing most significantly for the following: gasoline – by 17.9 percent, silk fabrics – by 11.9 percent, home appliances – by 9.6 percent, medicines – by 8.5 percent, liquefied natural gas (LNG) – by 7.8 percent; cement – by 7.2 percent, and detergents – by 5.7 percent.

Over the same eleven-month period prices and rates for services rendered to the population have increased by 5.8 percent.  The ones that increased most significantly were: payment for tickets for air travel – 23.6 percent, electric energy – 14.9 percent, water supply and sewerage services – 10.4 percent, and public transportation services – 1.9 percent.

Tajik central bank forecasts that the year-end inflation for this year will stand at no more than 7.0 percent.

Recall, Tajikistan’s year-end inflation for 2017 has been estimated at 6.7 percent.
