A commander of company of military unit 0717 of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) demanded Mercedes-Benz from a soldier serving under him for exempting him from further military service.

Officer Amirsho Rahmonov has demanded Mercedes-Benz or 15,000 somoni from the soldier serving under him for exempting him from further military service, according to the Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption

The officer was caught red-handed during renewal of the car in his name, says the anticorruption agency press center.  

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Rahmonov under the provisions of Article 247 (4) of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – fraud.  He could face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
