President Emomali Rahmon today attended an official opening ceremony of funicular in Khujand, the capital of the northern Sughd province.

According to the Tajik president’s official website, the 1-kilometer cableway connects the Park named after Kamol Khujandi and the Ismoili Somoni Complex across the Syr Darya River.

The construction of the cableway has reportedly been financed by a group of local entrepreneurs within the framework of declaring 2019-2021 the Years of Development of Rural Areas, Tourism and Folk Crafts in Tajikistan.

The Khujand funicular consists of a single-track part and a passing place.  There are two stations; electric and rope drive.  47 4-seater gondolas and seven highest-category-service gondolas are exploited.

Today, the head of state also attended the tulip festival dubbed Sairi Guli Lola and the national cuisine festival dubbed Taomhi Millii Navrouzi.

On Tuesday, Emomali Rahmon also attended an official opening of ceremony of “Temourmalik” Restaurant in Khujand.  The restaurant was built by local entrepreneur Abdurasoul Rajabov, the top manager of the “Abdurashid” Limited Liability Company.
