Recent torrential rains have caused a landslide that reportedly damaged the highway connecting the central part of the country with the northern Sughd province.

The press center of the Branch of the Innovative Roads Solutions (IRS) Company in Tajikistan, which operates the toll on the Dushanbe-Khujand-Chanak highway, says the landslide occurred today morning blocking the highway on the 119th kilometer in Ayni district.

The work on clearing the highway of stones and slurry is under way and it is expected to reopen for traffic today afternoon, Daler Merganov, a spokesman for IRS Branch in Tajikistan, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
