Tajik enterprises have reportedly begun producing some import substitution products

Parliamentary discussions entitled “The Process of Industrialization of the Country as the Fourth National Strategic Goal” took place in Dushanbe on May 7.

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Industry and New Technologies, Bakhtiyor Sharipov, in particular, noted that domestic enterprises had begun using modern technologies to manufacture the import substitution products.

According to him, domestic enterprises have organized production of the following import substitution goods: polypropylene threads; putties; light bricks; drywalls; diapers; plastic bags; aroma soaps; children’s toys, buses; tractors; medicinal cotton; bandages; and so forth.

Over the first three months of this year, Tajikistan has produced a total of more than 5.7 billion somoni worth of industrial goods, Sharipov noted.

Compared to the same period last year, the index of the volume of production of industrial goods reportedly amounted to 115.9 percent.

Recall, the National Development Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period to 2030 (NDS-2030) provides for turning Tajikistan into an industrial-agrarian country by 2030.

The main priorities of the NDS-2030 include: 1) education; 2) health care; 3) employment; 4) inequality; 5) combating corruption; 6) food security and nutrition; 7) good governance; 8) social welfare; 9) prevention of potential conflicts; and 10) energy security, environmental protection and management of demographic processes.

NDS-2030 suggests that coordination institutions and accountability of state administration bodies, business and civil society should play an important role for the implementation of these priorities.  Performance of these institutions will be based on a national system of evaluation and forecasting of future development, short-term and long-term objectives and plans for implementation, accordingly.
