The 28-year-old Suhrob Hasanov has got a lengthy jail term for recruiting people to join the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terror group.

The Dushanbe city court has sentenced him to 14 years in prison.

The sentence followed his conviction on charges of organizing an extremist group (Article 307 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code), mercenary (Article 401), illegal border crossing (Article 335) and criminal attempt (Article 32).

Suhrob Hasanov will serve his term in a high-security penal colony.

According to the Dushanbe city court press center, Hasanov was propagating ISIS ideas among youth and disseminating ISIS videos. .

He was reportedly also sending ISIS videos to mobile phones of teenagers using ShareIt program.   

The Dushanbe city court press center says Suhrob Hasanov and four teens were detained in September last year while attempting to illegally cross the Tajik-Afghan border.
