Tajikistan has increased supply of electric power to neighboring countries by nearly 34 percent.

Over the first six months of this year, Tajikistan has supplied 1.257.4 billion kWh of electricity to neighboring countries, which was 317.4 million kWh more than in the same period last year, the Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Usmonali Usmonzoda, told reporters in Dushanbe on July 15.

According to him, Tajikistan has earned 230 million somoni (equivalent to some 25 million USD) from supplying electric power to the neighboring countries in January-June this year.

Tajikistan exports surplus electricity to Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan mainly during the summer period.  This year, Tajikistan is expected to supply more than 3.2 billion kWh of electricity to the neighboring countries.

Tajikistan has sufficient summer-time (defined as May 1 to September 30) hydropower surpluses to export to the neighboring countries.  Tajikistan is reportedly able to export up to 5 billion kWh of electricity during the summer period.

Meanwhile, Tajikistan has produced more than 10.1 billion kWh of electric power over the first six months of this year, which was 6.5 percent more than in the same period last year.
