The Rural Development Committee under the Government of Tajikistan gave a news conference yesterday.  The deputy head of the Committee Yoqub Ismoilzoda answered reporters’ questions.

Releasing a report, Ismoilzoda laid special emphasis on organization of the contest, Sairi Guli Lola (Walking in the Tulip Field).

By president’s instruction this contest is being conducted in Tajikistan in 2019-2021 and its main objective is in reviving traditions, improving the environment, preserving nature, and attracting tourists.

According to Ismoilzoda, it is necessary to raise a sense of aesthetics in population through organization of festivals and contests like Sairi Guli Lola.

“This will inspire people to creative work and they will revive the countryside at their own expense,” Tajik official said.

He further noted that 2019 was declared the Year of Development of Rural Areas and all districts and cities had their own development programs.

However, the implementation of these programs ranges from 40 to 80 percent.

Today, there are 432 rural self-government bodies functioning in Tajikistan: 62 of them are village councils; and 370 others are jamoats (third-level administrative divisions, similar to communes or municipalities, and each jamoat is further subdivided into villages).

There are 4,224 villages in Tajikistan.
