Compared to the first half-year of 2018, Tajikistan has increase production and export of agricultural goods.

Tajik Minister of Agriculture Izatullo Sattori remarked this yesterday at a news conference in Dushanbe.

According to him, Tajikistan now exports its farm produce to twenty-five countries of the world, including Kazakhstan, Russia, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and some others.

“Over the first six months of this year, we have exported more than 72,100 tons of fruit-and-vegetable products,” said the minister.  “Over the same six-month period, all categories of farms have produced 575,000 tons of grain, 253,000 tons of potatoes, 785,000 tons of vegetables, 122,000 tons of fruits and 209,000 tons of melon crops.”

Production of livestock goods (meat, milk, eggs and honey) has also increased over the report period, Sattori noted.

Asked why water melons and meats are so expensive at country’s bazaars this year, the minister just said, “Prices are rising because it is the law of the market economy.”

He further added that lamb and beef prices could be reduced by increasing production of other types of meat – for example, chicken and rabbit meats.
