Despite the fatal clash that erupted in Tajikistan’s Vorukh exclave in Kyrgyzstan yesterday afternoon, official Dushanbe is continuing to make preparations for a meeting of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his Kyrgyz counterpart Sooronbai Jeenbekov, which is scheduled to take place in the Tajik northern city of Isfara on July 26.

It is not a matter of postponing or cancelling the meeting of the presidents, an official source at the Tajik government told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, the presidents will observe the situation on the spot.

The presidents will discuss issues related to delimitation and demarcation of the disputable stretches of the mutual border.

Experts believe that this meeting could lead to a breakthrough in finally resolving a long-standing border dispute.

Recall, Jeenbekov noted on July 4 that much progress had been made during negotiations between the two governments.

“Productive talks are taking place in Tajikistan. During my official visit to Tajikistan, President Emomali Rahmon and I arrived upon a shared opinion and shared goals,” Jeenbekov was cited as saying by Kyrgyz news agency AK Press
