The Prosecutor General’s Office of Tajikistan has appointed a re-examination of the allegation of torture against lawyer Abdulaziz Abdurahmonzoda: anti-corruption officers knocked out his tooth during his arrest.

Abdurakhmonzoda’s lawyer says that he was detained by employees of the Agency for Financial Control and Anti-Corruption of the Republic of Tajikistan on suspicion of receiving $ 500 for subsequent transfer to Shahzod Nuralizoda, an employee of the Varzob court. After the detention, the investigators directly in the law office broke his tooth and beat him severely, forcing him to write a confession statement.

According to the Public Organization "Independent Center for the Protection of Human Rights", the City Prosecutor’s Office, after verifying the fact, refused to institute criminal proceedings because of the lack of confirmation of the fact of torture.

The lawyer provided to Abdulaziz Abdurahmonzoda by the Coalition against Torture and Impunity in Tajikistan, disagreeing with the results of the prosecutor’s inspection, demanded a second.

On August 9, the Sino district court upheld the demand of lawyers and ordered a second prosecutor’s check, entrusting it to the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Prosecutorial verification is ongoing.
