150 drivers and passengers, whose vehicles got stuck in avalanches on the Dushanbe-Khujand highway, have been evacuated by rescuers of the Emergencies Committee and employees of the Branch of Innovative Road Solutions (IRS) in Tajikistan, which operates the toll on this highway.

Recall, the highway has been temporarily closed for traffic after a series of avalanches have blocked it in some places.

The Dushanbe-Khujand highway has been temporarily closed for traffic after avalanches occurred yesterday morning on the 55th, 62nd and 73rd kilometers of the highway.

“The highway still remains closed for traffic as the risk of further avalanches is high,” Umeda Yusufi, a spokeswoman for the Emergencies Committee, told Asia-Plus today morning.

According to her, 150 drivers and passengers trapped in those avalanches were evacuated yesterday by rescuers of the Emergencies Committee and employees of the IRS Branch in Tajikistan.

The Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan advises people not to travel to mountain areas unnecessarily.
