The World Bank will provide a grant to Tajikistan for development of its rural economy, according to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) Secretariat.
A grant agreement for 30 million U.S. dollars was reportedly signed last week in Dushanbe by Mr. Faiziddin Qahhorzoda, Minister of finance of Tajikistan, and Mr. Jan-Peter Olters, Country Manager for the World Bank in Tajikistan.
The amount of this grant is allocated for financing the Tajikistan Rural Economy Development Project, which was approved by the World Bank’s Board of Executive Directors on June 20, 2019.
The Project development objective is in improving the sources of livelihood for local populations in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) and the Khatlon province through tourism and agribusiness development.
The project, in particular, provides for restoration of the Yamchun Fort in GBAO and Hulbuk Fort, Khoja Mashhad Madrasa and the Chiluchorchashma countryside in the Khatlon province.
The project also aimed at improving tourism infrastructure, tourist sites and so forth, according to the MoF Secretariat.
The implementation of the project is expected to begin this year and will last until 2024.
