Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with the Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany Heiko Maas in Berlin on January 27, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

In the course of the talks, the parties reportedly discussed the state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral political, economic and cultural cooperation between Tajikistan and Germany.

Muhriddin and Maas also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues being of mutual interest, including security and environmental problems.

At the end of the meeting, the parties signed a government-to-government agreement on labor activities of the family members of the employees of diplomatic and consular representatives.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Federal Republic of Germany were established in 1992.

Germany opened an embassy in Dushanbe in 1993, making it the first EU member state with an embassy in the country. Germany has supported the inner-Tajik peace and democratization process from the start and remains actively committed to promoting the rule of law and respect for human rights.

Official consultations between the two Foreign Ministries were agreed in May 2016; the most recent round of talks took place in Berlin on October 1, 2019.
