Tajikistan’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway (with residence in Vienna), Mr. Idibek Qalandar, presented his credentials to King Harald V of Norway on February 13 in Oslo, according to the Tajik MFA information department.

During a meeting that took place after the ceremony of presentation of the credentials, the Tajik Ambassador conveyed to the King of Norway the message of greetings of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and expressed the readiness of Tajikistan to further strengthen the mutually beneficial cooperation with Norway.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Tajikistan and the Kingdom of Norway were established in 1992.

Until today, the diplomatic relations between the two countries are limited to the diplomatic correspondence and the legal base of the countries has not yet been fully established.

Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs visited Tajikistan twice.  The first visit took place in 1999, when Norway was chairing the OSCE, and the second visit was carried out in 2004.  The Norwegian delegation of OSCE Parliamentary Assembly visited Tajikistan in 2012.

In November 2012 Minister of Energy and Industry of Tajikistan visited Norway.

In the period of early independence of Tajikistan the Norwegian Government has provided humanitarian and technical assistance to the country.  In the framework of the OSCE program for the destruction of small arms and light conventional ammunition, the Kingdom of Norway provided assistance to Tajikistan.

On August 6, 2010 an agreement between the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan and the Organization of Norwegian People's Aid on humanitarian cooperation in the field of mine clearance was singed.  In accordance with the agreement, the Norwegian side in 2010 allocated 7 million kroons (equivalent to 1.06 million USD) for cleaning minefields in Tajikistan.
