Germany will help Tajikistan facilitate trade

The Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has concluded an agreement on simplification of trade procedures.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT) press center, the document was inked in Dushanbe on February 19 by Mr. Zavqi Zavqizoda, Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan and Ms. Sabine Olthof, Country Director, GIZ Office Tajikistan.  

The agreement aims at optimizing trade and transit procedures, improving border management system, piloting and innovating for the purpose of simplifying trade and involving the private sector in the process of making decision regarding facilitation of trade, the MoEDT press center said.  

The MoEDT press center notes that “a total cost of the signed agreement, which is of regional significance and covers Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, is 7 million euros.”  

In Tajikistan, the trade facilitation project is reportedly designed for three years: 2020-2023.   -2- Trade facilitation in Central Asia (TFCA)

On behalf of the German Government, GIZ has been working in Tajikistan since 1995, supporting efforts to build up the country’s economy and society and bring stability to the region.  GIZ opened its own office in the capital, Dushanbe, in 1996, with two more offices supporting the federal enterprise’s activities in rural areas.

GIZ’s work in Tajikistan focuses on the following priority areas: economic development and employment; environment and climate; governance and democracy; and social development.
