Parliamentary elections in Tajikistan meet generally accepted principles of holding democratic elections

Tajikistan has thoroughly prepared for holding parliamentary elections, CIS Executive Committee Chairman Sergei Lebedev, who headed the CIS election observation mission, told reporters in Dushanbe on March 2.    

According to him, the elections were held in Tajikistan in the atmosphere of friendship and tranquility.

Lebedev stressed that compared to the 2015 parliamentary elections “Tajik voters had become more literate.”   

“If previously people had not been so demanding on candidates, now have studied people candidates whether this or that candidate will be able to fulfill what he promised,” the CIS Executive Committee head said.

According to him, parliamentary elections in Tajikistan have met generally accepted principles of holding democratic elections.

“The election were held on a competitive basis, openly and publicly,” Lebedev added.
