President Emomali Rahmon has congratulated Tajik women on occasion of the Day of the Mother, which is marked in Tajikistan on March 8.

A ceremonial meeting dedicated to the Day of the Mother took place at the Kokhi Borbad State Complex in Dushanbe on March 7.

In a statement delivered at the meeting, Emomali Rahmon underlined an important role of women in society, according to the Tajik president’ official website.

The head of state, in particular, highly appraised the role of women in preserving the country’s independence.

Women equally with men serve in the Armed Forces and law enforcement authorities of the country, Rahmon said.

“As of March 1, 2020, 4,500 (25 percent) of nearly 19,000 public servants of Tajikistan are women.  1,100 or 19 percent of them occupy leading positions,” said the head of state.  “116 female doctors of science and 1,124 female candidates of sciences now work in various spheres, including 15 female doctors of science and 133 female candidates of science working in the fields of the exact sciences.”

Hundreds of women are currently working at the sites for construction of the Roghun hydropower plant and other strategic faculties, Rahmon noted.

By president’s decree of March 6, 2009 women’s holiday is now known in Tajikistan as the Day of the Mother.

Congratulating Tajik women on the occasion of International Women’s Day, President Emomali Rahmon noted on 2009 that International Women's Day has only been celebrated on March 8 for about 100 years, while ancient Aryans — the ancestors of the Tajiks — had special days both for mothers, specifically, and for women in general.  President Rahmon proposed to mark March 8 as the Day of the Mother.
